Games and toys at Christmas
The question is simple why do we have in the supermarket, in the church ... boxes full of used toys? The answer is also: for poor children.
Oh, and that's where the problem lies. It turns out that a poor child has to be conformed with used toys. Many will think right now "better than nothing", which is something (including a server) that we all think, but a child think the same? Will it make the same illusion to receive a new toy than a used toy?
A few years ago I was a volunteer time in a social canteen near my house. During the Christmas holidays, said social dining room opened its doors to the possibility that everyone gave toys for children who went to the social dining room. You asombraríais to see the amount of garbage that people gave, from broken toys to Tintin comics without several pages. The people who were in charge of these toys had to get rid of many of them, but I am sure that many in a not very good state came to the children.
Although it seems an isolated case is not the only one, if you go to a center where they do this type of reception (like a church) you will see that many of the toys are not in good condition. This happens because many times we donate what is no longer useful and we do not realize that this does not serve others.
But the state of the toys is not the main problem.
Choose and impose
Many insisting in the phrase before the "best used No". As a devil's advocate, I changed the word "toy" to "clothes." And people insisted. However if we stop to think, now of adults our way of living and thinking is different to when we are small. A child with new and fashionable clothes will always point to someone who has little clothing, old clothes or very worn clothes. What's not? I am sure that the term "of the brand Nisu (nor his mother knows her)" comes to mind some of those moments.
Well, once you get to this moment, you'll soon say, "Huh?" "Does a poor man have to dress well and have new toys while I'm barely at the end of the month?" Of course not, I'm sure many will secondhand or used or handmade clothes. I am a hundred percent fan of secondhand books and I have worn or old clothes, but there is a difference between that and the clothes that are donated: mine is my decision. What do you give me a used t-shirt? I decide whether I wear it or not. What do you give me a second hand? I choose. And if I do not accept nothing will happen since it is not the only thing I have and tomorrow is not going to cut my supply for it.
What can be done
Of course the interesting thing would be that families without resources receive a cheque directly, or a voucher with what they want. Because I know that there are people who would not trust to give the money directly is not going to be that the intermediaries or those who think that intermediaries always take a percentage of it. However it is money, clothes or toys if someone outside the beneficiary wants to take it will take it.
